Our Caregiver Support Group meets at two different times and two different locations.
It is tough being a caregiver. Tougher still if it is a child taking care of a parent; and even harder if Alzheimer’s or dementia is involved.
Caregivers often pay a price in their physical and mental health because of their caregiver role. Did you know that 50% of dementia caregivers suffer a major depressive episode, and that a shocking 30% die before the patient? Under the best of circumstances loving and caring for someone with dementia is hard, and caregivers also need help and support.
The Alzheimer’s/Dementia ministry at Shady Grove is trying in a small way to help by offering two monthly support groups for those caring for or concerned about someone with Alzheimer’s or dementia. When facing such a challenge, it can help to share your burdens with those who are carrying, or have carried, the same load. While we don’t offer professional counseling, we do offer a sympathetic ear, the knowledge that you aren’t undergoing your trials alone, and the combined wisdom and experience of the group.
