growing together

"CARITAS helps our most vulnerable neighbors break the cycles of addiction and homelessness to reclaim their dignity."
CARITAS is a faith response that provides for the most basic needs of people who are suffering
Food and shelter – CARITAS Shelter
Employment -- CARITAS Works
Addiction Recovery -- CARITAS Healing Place
Home furnishings – CARITAS Furniture Bank

*CARITAS is now asking the community to create kits to fulfill needs for their residents and clients.*
Shady Grove will be collecting these kits during the month of October.

Classroom Kit - The classroom kit provides the women at The Healing Place with the items they need for their everyday classes, as they work towards recovery with their peers. A sturdy backpack, filled with a subject college ruled spiral notebook and 3 black pens.

Welcome Home Kit – The welcome home kit provides those moving into independent housing with essential cleaning items. Please fill a mop bucket with sponges, glass cleaner, paper towels, all-purpose cleaner, dustpan, broom, Lysol, etc. We also ask that you include a note of encouragement!

Please label the outside of the bags with the type of kit you have assembled and place them in the correct boxes in the Missions Zone, located in the connector hallway between the gym and education buildings.

Our church has participated in the CARITAS program for close to 30 years.  CARITAS is the largest emergency shelter program in our community and focuses on transitioning single adults and families from homelessness to independence by helping them find jobs and shelter.  SGUMC volunteers range in ages from 5 years to 75+.
