John Wesley and the Methodists: Crisis of Faith — Pastor Jay Kelchner
We long for our hearts to be “strangely warmed.” We struggle to maintain the same faith that we used to know. We fail again and again. That is where grace comes in. God loves us in spite of ourselves. We try to do enough to win God’s favor, but the exercise is futile. John Wesley finally came to the place in his life where his struggle with faith almost caused him to give up. As hard as he tried, he failed to live up to God’s standards and this caused him great anxiety and sense of failure. It is only through the saving work of Jesus Christ that any of us can see the kingdom. Scripture: Romans 4:3-5, 5:1-2b
